Radio

I thought I would write something fun for a change. 

Have you always thought of it was like working for a radio station? I know I have in the past few months. My favorite Christian radio station is 90.9 KCBI. I have met quite a few people there and became friends with the morning show host Caryn Cruise. She and her husband Jeremy do the morning show. I have been up to KCBI quite a few times and it's always fun to see what it's like woking behind the mic. 

Here's a fun little interview I did with my friend Caryn. Seeing what her perspective and what is like for her to work for a radio station. 


What was your dream job?

When I was a kid I wanted to be an artist. In fact, I went to college as a commercial art major. 

Have you always wanted to do radio as a career?

No! It never crossed my mind. After my first year of college I decided not to return. 
There was a Christian radio station in my home town. 
Friday nights they had a Christian rock show hosted by a guy I knew from high school. I was volunteering at the station when the general manager offered me a part time job. That led to full-time and I’ve been in radio ever since. 

What has been a highlight or two working for KCBI? 

I would say getting to know our listeners and working with the staff at KCBI. 
Both the people I work with and Texas listeners are so kind and have the biggest hearts. 
They give generously, love well and are so passionate about Jesus and the station. 

What is it like working for a radio station?

It’s fun but it’s still also work. You get to be a part of some neat events, concerts and meet artists, which I love. On the flip side, you also have everyday responsibilities, meetings and tasks you have to accomplish like any other job. Our day starts pretty early.
 I usually get up around 3:30am, we’re at the station by 5am and the show starts at 5:30am. 
Once the show is over we are typically either in meetings, working on our weekend show or answering 
listener emails. After we leave for the day we have a little downtime then by the afternoon
 we start working on the next day’s show. 
We spend hours gathering content to talk about on-air, either from our own life, 
social media, news, family, etc. Then the day starts all over again! 

What is it like being on air?

Exciting, stressful, joyful, challenging…it’s all the things.
 I love hearing listeners stories! 
Some days I don’t feel like I have anything to say or wonder why anyone would listen, 
but I have to remind myself God has me here right now so He has a plan.

    Happy April! April comes in so many colors as flowers bloom. My favorite flowers are especially the Texas bluebonnets. April I always think of Easter. A time to reflect on what Christ did for us on the cross.  Palm Sunday, when Jesus rides on a donkey on the streets and people shouting Hosanna and ending it with Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, is when they crucified our Lord. He paid the price for our sins so we didn’t have to.  May we never forget what He did for us. Even after Easter as the year goes on, let’s not forget what He did for us. He will always be with us no matter what. Good Friday might be a day of mourning, but I hope it’s still a good day knowing what Jesus did for us.     A Sign of God’s Promises

     Last Friday evening,  I was driving home from Dallas Seminary and it started to rain and the sun was out. Making a perfect rainbow. I was able to capture this picture from the window from my car (and yes I was at a stop light).  It reminds me of God’s faithfulness and promises that he’ll never flood the earth again and for us in our daily walk with Him. I always enjoy little reminders, especially during the  hard times. Life can be hard sometimes, but God’s faithfulness to us will never end. He will never fail us.  He is with us no matter what.  Just small reminders of God’s faithfulness to us. It can be as simple as sunset over the lake, rainbows or just nature you see around you.  Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come.   I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.” Genesis 9:12-13 (NLT)

    KCBI Story

     Hello! Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of months.  Have you ever had a place, a friend, celebrity, or pastor that has impacted your life. I have so many of those. One of them is my local Christian radio station. I started listening to KCBI more in the year 2021 a year after the pandemic. Over the past four years, the station has made an impact in my life. To the on air team, teaching, and the music. I’ve gotten to hear so many stories from the DFW area, and new Christian contemporary songs and new artist. Not just listening to the on air team, but getting to know them and knowing what their stories are off air. Just this past year, it has been such an encouragement. My family and I have been going through a lot these past six months and when I listen, it’s been made more of an impact. I might not always relate to everything, but some I do. I am grateful for this radio station, the people, and seeing how the Lord has worked and is continuing to do so!
